Female Mixed Breed Basenji Puppy, 1-3 Months

Female Mixed Breed Basenji Puppy, 1-3 Months Highlights

• Basenji Temperament: Basenjis are known for being intelligent, curious, and independent dogs. They are often described as cat-like due to their grooming habits and aloofness with strangers, though they can be very affectionate with their families.
• Vocalization: Basenjis are famously known as the "barkless dog." Instead of barking, they make a unique yodel-like sound called a 'baroo' when excited or distressed.
• Energy Levels & Exercise: These dogs are energetic and require regular exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. Daily walks, playtime, and opportunities to run in a secure area are essential.
• Grooming Needs: Basenjis have a short, fine coat that requires minimal grooming. They are meticulous self-groomers, similar to cats, which helps keep their coat clean and reduces shedding.
• Trainability Challenges: Due to their independent nature, Basenjis can be challenging to train. They respond best to positive reinforcement methods and require patience and consistency from their owners.
• Potential Health Concerns: While generally healthy, Basenjis can be prone to certain genetic conditions such as Fanconi syndrome (a kidney disorder) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). Responsible breeding practices aim to minimize these risks.
